The Seminar “Introducing Eastern Orthodoxy: Past, Present, Future” concluded with an excursion to Kalambaka and Meteora. The Seminar was organized by the Volos Academy in collaboration with Valparaiso University (USA), and it covered topics as Introduction to Greek Orthodoxy (20th-21st c.)(Dr Nikolaos Asproulis), Theosis / Deification in the Orthodox tradition(Dr. Nikolaos Asproulis), Monasticism as Ecclesial Witness: Continuity and Renewal from Late Antiquity to Today (Dr. Nikos Kouremenos), Icons in the Church and in History(Dr Lidiya Lozova), Divine Liturgy and Repentance in Patristic Tradition(Rev. Dr Nicholas Denysenko & Dr Lisa Driver), Introduction to Orthodox Ecclesiology (Rev. Dr Amfilochios Miltos), The Dialogue between the Orthodox and Roman Catholic Churches(Rev. Dr Amfilochios Miltos), Late-Antique Christology and the Council of Nicaea (Dr Vladimir Latinovic), Orthodoxy between Tradition and Modernity(Dr Vladimir Latinovic), Orthodox Political Theology: An Introduction to figures and trends (Dr Pantelis Kalaitzidis) and “Russki Mir”: The modern temptation of Judas and the Moscow Patriarchate (Dr Pantelis Kalaitzidis). The trainees and their professors visited the Museum of Byzantine Art and Culture in Makrinitsa, Pelion, the monastery of St John the Forerunner in Anatoli, Aghia, the church of the Dormition of the Virgin in Kalambaka and the monasteries of Varlaam and Roussanou in Meteora, and they attended the third Stasis of the Salutations to the Virgin Mary in the church of St Constantine in Volos. On Sunday, March 15, the leading professor, Rev. Nicholas Denysenko, participated in the Divine Liturgy in the Evangelistria church in Nea Ionia, Volos, presided by Metropolitans Ignatius of Demetrias and Apostolos of Militos.
