With the participation of the Director of the Volos Academy for Theological Studies

The Ecumenical Patriarchate is organizing an International Conference in Constantinople, titled “The theological legacy of Archpriest George Florovsky,” September 1-3, 2019, on the 40-year anniversary of his passing.

Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew will inaugurate the International Conference which will be attended by hierarchs, clergy, distinguished university professors and theologians from universities from around the world.  The Director of the Volos Academy for Theological Studies, Dr. Pantelis Kalaitzidis, will participate with a paper on: "Apophaticism, Cataphaticism, Mystical Theology and the Christian Hellenism of Fr Georges Florovsky".

It is noted that Fr. George Florovsky was a groundbreaking theologian and professor, and has been called the “rector of Orthodox theologians” in the 20th century.

His inspiring appeal to the theologians to return to the patristic springs and to acquire the spirit of the Church Fathers; and to the Church to engage the powerful historical and ecumenical challenges of our time, was a landmark for Orthodox theology and influence Christian thought to this day.
