JOURNAL FOR THE STUDY OF METROPOLITAN JOHN ZIZIOULAS’ THEOLOGY

The John Zizioulas Foundation is pleased to announce the publication of the first issue of the new scholarly journal “The OmegAlpha: Journal for the Study of Metropolitan John Zizioulas’ Theology”. The journal is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal, publishing scholarship on different aspects of the thought and work of the late Metropolitan of Pergamon, John D. Zizioulas (1931-2023), the most eminent spokesman of Global Orthodoxy of the last decades.

The Journal publishes scholarly articles primarily addressing issues specific to the theology of the late Metropolitan John Zizioulas of Pergamon, and broader issues related to his theological legacy from a theological, philosophical, historical, or other perspective. The editorial committee is international and the editorial policy is ecumenically open. The Journal aims alto to publishing critical book reviews, review essays, and responses to articles. The journal is published by the John Zizioulas Foundation in cooperation with Sebastian Press (Los Angeles, CA), and with the Volos Academy for Theological Studies. Dr. Nikolaos Asproulis, deputy director of the Volos Academy for Theological Studies, is the editor-in-chief of the journal.

The first issue [Vol. 1, No. 1 (2025)] is dedicated to the general theme “Eschatological View of Metropolitan John Zizioulas”. The issue focuses on various aspects of Metropolitan John Zizioulas’ eschatological view. Different authors explore the role of eschatology in Zizioulas’ work and its influence on the life of the Church and its relationship to the modern world. The issue also contains a critical edition of unpublished archival material, particularly an essay written by Zizioulas when he was studying under Paul Tillich at Harvard University in the early 60s.
